BTEC International Diploma (Level 3) are career-based qualifications designed to give students the skills they need to move on to higher education at a university or to go straight into employment. It is undertaken as an educational pathway by sixth-form colleges, schools, and students after completion of IGCSE, O'Levels, and Matriculation. BTEC International diploma Level-3 (extended) maintains the same equivalences, benchmarks, and other articulations (for example SCAAT points, UCAS Tariff points) as any other Level 3 qualifications, for example, A'Level, HSSC, high school diplomas, etc.
The Pearson BTEC International Level 3 qualifications in Engineering are designed either for learners in the 16-19 age group who wish to pursue a career in engineering via higher education to access graduate entry employment with engineers, or alternatively through junior engineering employment. This specification includes all the units for these qualifications. These qualifications are part of the suite of engineering qualifications offered by Pearson. In this suite, there are qualifications that focus on different progression routes, allowing learners to choose the one best suited to their aspirations.
Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals are designed to help students secure the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to succeed in the workplace. They represent the latest in professional standards and provide opportunities for students to develop behaviours for work, for example by undertaking a group project or responding to a client brief. A student may even achieve exemption from professional or vendor qualifications or student membership of selected professional bodies, to help them on their journey to professional competence. At the same time, the BTEC Higher Nationals are intended to keep doors open for future study should a student wish to progress further in their education after their level 5 study. They do this by allowing space for the development of higher education study skills, such as the ability to research. Clear alignment of the level of demand with the Framework for Higher Education qualification descriptors at level 4 and 5 means that students wishing to progress to level 6 study should feel better prepared.
Pearson BTEC Higher National qualifications take a student-centred approach to the curriculum. There is a flexible, unit-based structure that focuses on developing the practical, interpersonal, and thinking skills the student will need to succeed in employment and higher education. They represent the latest in professional standards and provide opportunities for students to develop skills and behaviours for work, for example by taking part in a group project or meeting a client brief. A student may achieve exemption from professional or vendor qualifications, or membership of selected professional organisations to help students on their journey to professional recognition or membership.
